Setting Sail!
On a gloriously sunny day, we celebrated the groundbreaking of the EcoCenter building. After four years of planning, the day arrived when we could cheer the impending start of construction. 150 guests celebrated as Honorary Capital Campaign Chairs, Jan & Bob Fenwick, placed the first ceremonial shovels in the ground. They were in awe listening to Project Manager Maryanne Welton describe the challenges of meeting local, state and federal permitting requirements.
Allan Berkowitz, Executive Director, told the crowd, “This building – and our good fortune as an environmental education organization to move INTO a nature preserve – will facilitate greater mission fulfillment; lead to more educational opportunities for the community; and it will restore to this community one of its iconic buildings.”
Stay tuned for construction updates. For now, check out the photos from the Groundbreaking Ceremony.
