Volunteer Opportunities with the EV

Environmental Volunteers is always looking for energetic and enthusiastic people to join us. All year round our volunteers present engaging classroom and field-based educational activities that broaden students' horizons and get them excited about nature and science.

Overview
An Envioronmental Volunteer (EV) should have a strong commitment to improving children's knowledge of the environment. EV will have a desire to work cooperatively with teachers, children and other volunteers.

Time Commitment
Upon completion of the requisite training, an EV will be willing to contribute a minimum of three hours each month, and additional preparation and travel time as needed. Attendance at monthly scheduling meetings and participation in enrichment training is not mandatory but is highly recommended.
Duties
- Assist in teaching the EV programs to elementary level children (K – 8).
- Work cooperatively with teachers, EV Staff, Area Coordinators and other EVs in presenting activities and field trips, as requested.
- Actively demonstrate a respect for the environment, humans and other organisms to children.
- Handle all materials respectfully and assist, as needed, with preparation and up-keep of materials.
- Communicate to the appropriate EV Materials Coordinator of necessary repairs to learning kits.
- Attend monthly area meetings during the school year, check web schedule, or call Area Coordinator to volunteer for school services.
- Participate in enrichment training as needed.
- Keep up-to-date about program and materials changes within the EV organization.
Qualifications
- Interest and desire to work with elementary school children.
- Interest in natural science and a desire to learn more about specified topics.
- Completion of EV training.
- Be available to work a minimum of three hours each month.
- Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of people and ages.
