Wildflowers with Nina Brooks: Capture the rejuvenation of California’s wildflowers with a guided walk at Filoli or other premium bloom-abundant locale. You will want to arrange this for spring time.

Jasper Ridge and Fitzgerald Marine Preserve Explorations!

Let EV experts show you natural wonders in our own backyard.

Stanford's Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve with Bob Dodge: Gain access to a secluded preserve not open to the public. Your interests will determine when you want to take this hike. You can focus on archeology any time of year; tracks will be best in winter or spring; and a spring walk could center on wildflowers.

Tidepooling with Marilyn and Neil Horner: Follow the ebbed tide at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve to see sea stars, sea urchins, sea anemones and other creatures hidden by high tides. Coordinate with the Horners to find the best low-tide time to fit your schedules – usually best in fall and winter.

Arrange each hike to fit your schedule and in coordination with the docent; up to 6 people per hike.

With no electricity, hot water, or cell phone reception, your focus will be on the rich, diverse array of life all around you.

You can arrange your own transportation, or Anita and Pat will pick you up in their 4-wheel drive vehicle at your hotel in Quito and return you for a fee of $200. http://yanapanareserve.blogspot.com/.                                       Donated for a 2011 trip by Anita and Pat McCaffrey. Starting bid: $900.

• Soaring Hawks

This excursion will be a thrill not soon forgotten! Visit Hawk Hill at the Marin Headlands with hawk expert Tom Moutoux during the fall migration season and watch raptors soar overhead as they fly south. During the peak migration season, one typically sees over 300 hawks per day crossing the Headlands. The ideal season for viewing is between September 15 and October 15, and your visit will be during the late morning to early afternoon hours, roughly 11am - 2pm. Hawks you can expect to see include Red-tail hawks, Sharp-shinned hawks, Coopers hawks and Turkey vultures. Also likely are Peregrine falcons, American Kestrels, White-tailed kites, Ospreys, Broad-winged hawks, Red-shouldered hawks, and Northern harriers. Much less likely, but also possible are Bald and Golden Eagles, Swainson's hawks, Ferruginous hawks and very rarely Rough-legged hawks.

All participants need binoculars; for hawk watching, any binoculars from 7x to 10x magnification will suffice. Ideal group size is 6 or fewer with a maximum of 10. Donor and leader Tom Moutoux is a volunteer with Environmental Volunteers and the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory. For more info about Hawk Hill visit: http://www.ggro.org. Starting bid: $200.
