Become a Volunteer

I enjoy sharing what I know with others and I like to have kids enjoy the outdoors as much as I do. I appreciate the "warm & fuzzy”, helpful feelings between staff and volunteers. Bobbi - EV for over 25 years

Environmental Volunteers is always looking for energetic and enthusiastic people to join us. All year round our volunteers present engaging classroom and field-based educational activities that broaden students' horizons and get them excited about nature and science.

What does an Environmental Volunteer do?

Environmental Volunteers teach kids to love nature, science and learning!

How Do I Get Started as a Volunteer?

You do not need teaching experience or a background in natural science to be an Environmental Volunteer – just an appreciation of nature and learning and an interest in working with kids. We provide all of the necessary training.

The next step is to contact us. Fill out our online Volunteer Information Request form OR Telephone the Environmental Volunteers office at (650) 961-0545 or (408) 244-2449 weekdays between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Why should I become an Environmental Volunteer?

In addition to helping Environmental Volunteers provide vital nature and science programs to local students, you’ll benefit, too!

  • Expand your knowledge of the natural environment of the Bay Area
  • Stay engaged in lifelong learning about nature, science, and the local community
  • Have fun discovering local ecosystems through the eyes of enthusiastic young students
  • Make new friends who enjoy learning, exploration, and working with kids as much as you do!
  • Contact us for more information about volunteering.

Volunteer Commitments

We generally ask volunteers in our programs serving kids in the classroom and on field trips to make the following commitments:

  • Volunteer a minimum of 3 hours a month for at least 1 year. Volunteer opportunities are generally during the school day (Monday – Friday 8:00 – 2:30)
  • Complete at least one Training Program in an Environmental Volunteers subject area

Other Volunteer Options

If you’re not able to meet all of the above commitments, you can still make a difference as an Environmental Volunteer! We invite you to participate in our other volunteer opportunities such as working in the Environmental Volunteers office, helping us create teaching materials, and raising awareness.
