What's happening:
Escape the gloom of winter and imagine yourself in the neotropical forests of Central America during this special presentation at the EcoCenter. Join us for a lecture and slideshow with Ryan Philips, the founder and Executive Director of the Belize Raptor Research Institute.
Nearly half of Belize is protected through parks, reserves, sanctuaries, and conservation areas. The country is also home to some of the most unique fauna in the avian world, such as the Stygian Owl, three species of Hawk-Eagles, and the near-threatened Solitary Eagle.
Participants in this EcoCenter program will learn more about neotropical raptors, the Solitary Eagle Project, and how to become directly involved with conserving these species in the 2013 field season.
The Belize Raptor Research Institute is a nonprofit organization that studies raptor life history, migration, and conservation. The Institute was recently awarded the 2012 Skutch Research Award from the Association of Field Ornithologists for studying the breeding behaviors of the Solitary Eagle.
Recommended for ages 12 and up.
