Interim Executive Director, Jim Rettew, joins Environmental Volunteers

PALO ALTO, California (August 2, 2017)— After an extensive search, Environmental Volunteers is pleased to announce that Jim Rettew has been selected to serve as Interim Executive Director of Environmental Volunteers. Rettew's official start date was Wednesday, August 2, 2017.

Jim Rettew brings an extensive background in nonprofit leadership. Recently, Jim served as the Interim Executive Director of Slide Ranch, an environmental education nonprofit on the Marin Headlands that serves over 10,000 school kids a year. Previously, he served as the Interim Chief Operating Officer for More than Me, an international girls education nonprofit. He also served as Chief External Relations Officer at the Minnesota Zoo and the Chief Communications Officer at the American Red Cross for Colorado.

The Board of Directors at Environmental Volunteers releases this statement:

“On behalf of the EV community, the Board of Directors is excited to welcome Jim Rettew as Interim Executive Director of Environmental Volunteers. Jim's leadership and management skills, along with his big, friendly personality and "Love and Leadership" management style, will serve us well during our transition. As board members of a nonprofit with a longstanding record of educational service to our community, we are confident that Jim will work alongside our staff, board, and volunteers to sustain our deep commitment to environmental education. Together, we look forward to building a strong foundation for the EV's future."

Jim Rettew shares these thoughts about his new post with Environmental Volunteers:

“I couldn’t be happier joining the talented staff at Environmental Volunteers. In an age where many kids are glued to their screens, Environmental Volunteers provides opportunities for students to get outside, learn about science, and appreciate the environment.”

Allan Berkowitz, the previous Executive Director, held the post for 17 years of devoted service.

Meanwhile, the EV Board will launch an executive search committee comprised of EV staff, board, and volunteers to find a permanent Executive Director. A job announcement and call for applications will be published in early fall 2017. The Board anticipates hiring a permanent candidate within 4 to 6 months.
