Nature in Your Neighborhood
Many of us love to go hiking or camping where we drive for hours to reach the “Great Outdoors.” While the most pristine parts of nature are certainly far from human development, the environment is all around us and there is wild life to appreciate in our own backyard. Students will learn how a small patch of soil contains an array of food webs and how animals (coyotes, raccoons, squirrels, birds, worms and insects) and plants co-exist with humans, and thrive in backyards, community parks and vacant lots. The program is available for grades K through 2. All Nature in Your Neighborhood programs include a Schoolyard Snoop where students go on a “field trip” to their own schoolyard to discover how the environment is right where they live.
