Volunteer to Share Your Love of Nature, Science and Learning

Individual volunteers are the heart of the Environmental Volunteers. Being an Environmental Volunteer gives you the rewarding opportunity to teach kids to love nature and science, as well as the chance to engage in lifelong learning about the environment.

Our volunteers work with small groups of children in the classroom and on field trips, and engage them in fun, discovery-based learning activities to teach them about Bay Area environments.

Who are the Environmental Volunteers?

Dear Mrs. Walston,
Thank you for teaching me about the rock cycle. I loved how I learned a rock can evolve from one type to another. The rock cycle game was cool because it combined fun and science.Sincerely, Vanessa

Our volunteers comprise a close-knit community of individuals committed to kids, nature and learning. They include people from many walks of life – parents, grandparents, working people, retired people, stay-at-home moms and dads, college students, and more. Each year they deliver over 500 services in the classroom and on field trips, as well as provide vital support in the Environmental Volunteers office, at events, and in the community.

How do Environmental Volunteers make a difference?

In these days of funding cutbacks at local schools, the science and nature education programs offered by Environmental Volunteers have become a crucial resource for schools looking to fulfill state educational standards.

The number of program services we offer to schools in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties is directly linked to how many volunteers are available to work with the students. Last year we taught over 12,000 local school children, but we had to turn away hundreds more due to a shortage of volunteers.

More Volunteers = More Services for Schools!
