Volunteer Opportunities
What does an Environmental Volunteer do?
Environmental Volunteers guide and influence kids and community members by participating in the following opportunities.
- Classroom Volunteers
We reach most of our students through our classroom programs and field trips for grades K-6 throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. We also offer Summer Camp programs each year.
In the classroom we work with small groups of children and involve them in hands-on, discovery-based learning, using our innovative teaching materials to educate children about Bay Area environments. Some classes also go on field trips to explore local ecosystems as we reinforce concepts introduced in the classroom.
Our programs lessons cover the following nine topic areas:
Baylands Ecology
Forest and Foothill Ecology
Marine Ecology
Earthquake Geology
Nature in your Neighborhood
All About Birds
Water Conservation
Early California Indians
Energy and Natural Resources This opportunity is perfect for volunteers with time during the school day. No teaching experience or background in natural science is necessary. A training class is required.
