8/17 EcoArt Reception – Cathy Zander: Landscape Paintings

Saturday, August 17th, 2019, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm

Cathy Zander is a prolific artist and art teacher, who teaches for the Pacific Art League, Palo Alto High School (Adult Education), and Foothill College. She is on the board for the Silicon Valley Open Studios, and displays her own work at group and solo shows every year. Here at the Ecocenter, she will display a number of her landscape paintings in a variety of media.

About the Artist:

“I grew up near Cleveland, Ohio, and took art classes at the Cleveland Art Museum, starting at age 8. By eleven I knew I wanted to be an art teacher. I graduated from Albion College with a BA in art education followed by graduate school at Purdue University with an MA in art education.

I have taught art classes for Mt. View-Los Altos School District Adult Ed, Los Altos Recreation Department, Palo Alto Recreation Department, Saint Lawrence High School, several art, craft and sewing stores, lots of non-profits, and many private lessons, for every age and every skill level. I love teaching; my students progress inspires me!

I started teaching at the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto in 1999 and joined Silicon Valley Open Studios as a board member soon after. I am still very active with these. This is my fifth year teaching at Palo Alto High School, Adult Education. I am scheduled to start teaching art at Foothill College this year. I am currently teaching watercolor, oil, acrylic and mixed-media painting.

My own prolific art work includes a wide range of paintings, sculpture, crafts, prints, jewelry, art-to-wear, and more, in unlimited styles, including realistic, abstract, mixed-media and experimental.

Landscapes and seascapes have always been a dominant interest to me. They range from beautiful and serene to dramatic and breathtaking.

I’m busier than ever. I look forward every year to showing my new work at solo shows, group shows and May’s Silicon Valley Open Studios. I was recently invited to be in the book American Artwork 2020.”
